International Conference “Future Megacities in Balance”
11 - 13 October 2010
At the international conference three core questions are the focus and will be developed by contributions of the participants and discussions:
- What is the role of mega cities on the way to a climate-neutral society, and the obstacles they must overcome?
- How can administrations, science, finance, economy and society forge new alliances for sustainable development?
- What can a research program contribute to an "experience market"?
The UAC-project was commissioned to organize the session “Urban Agriculture – Just a new Fashion or a Strategy for the Future?”

DAAD-Young Researchers' Symposium on Megacities

Summer School „Multifunctional Space Systems“
19 - 26 September 2010
The international summer school is a cooperation of TU Berlin and the ENA in Rabat. Around the same time as the Architectural- Engineering-Research Competition, the students of both universities were investigated by the question of climate-optimized multi-functional space systems. In contrast to the Research Competition the focus of the summerschool was more in the rural part of Médiouna.

Creative Workshop: multifunctional spatial systems focus ‘settlement’.
By visiting the site and doing a workshop in which both, scientists and representatives of the villagers were present, the teams were mediated in the unique challenges of the Douar (village) Oulad Ahmed. The workshop was a support for the four participating teams of the Research-Competition to create a visionary concept for Douar Ouled Ahmed and its further urban development.
Architectural-Engineering-Research-Competition
16 - 21 September 2010
The research competition " Multifunctional Spatial Systems" is an international conceptual competition to envision a sustainable urban neighborhood and productive landscape – both multifunctional and climate-optimized – in the peri-urban segment of the Casablanca Region. The international and interdisciplinary teams work on site (Ouled Ahmed) and at INAU (Institut National d'Aménagement et d'Urbanisme) with the assistance of expert mentors. The results were presented at the bi-national workshop, which took place at the Agence Urbaine in Casablanca.
Exposition WAEX3dry
15 June 2010 - Exposition Opening
WAEX3dry is an exhibition of work by students of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Space Planning of the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin). WAEX stands for "Water Extreme". As part of the UAC project the students get in touch with the question of multifunctional space systems with the focus on integrated water management.
